Messages and nicknames take styled text happily. Channel names are normalised, so what you type is not always what appears.
How it works
Discord is the friendliest of the big platforms for this. Messages take styled characters and keep them. So does your per server nickname, your custom status and the About Me on your profile. Discord has its own markdown for asterisk bold and underscore italic, but that only works inside a message. It does nothing in a nickname, a status or a profile, which is exactly where Unicode styles earn their place.
Channel names are the catch. Discord normalises them: it lowercases what you type, turns spaces into hyphens and drops characters it does not want. So what you type is not always what appears in the sidebar. Some styled characters survive, many do not, and the result is unpredictable enough that it is not worth building a server around. Test in a throwaway channel first. Everywhere else on Discord, what you paste is what everyone sees.
Every style on this site works in a Discord message, including the ones that fail elsewhere. Strikethrough, underline, overline, slashed and glitch all rely on combining marks stacked on ordinary letters, and Discord renders them properly on desktop, web and mobile. Bold, sans bold, monospace, cursive, gothic and outline are the usual picks for a nickname. Glitch is best kept to messages, because a tall stack of marks in a nickname pushes into the line above it in the member list.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to what people ask us most
Can I change the font in Discord without Nitro?
Yes. These are not fonts, they are Unicode characters, so nothing has to be unlocked. Copy a style and paste it into a message, a nickname, a status or your About Me.
Why does my channel name look wrong after I save it?
Discord normalises channel names. It lowercases them, replaces spaces with hyphens and strips characters it will not accept, so what appears in the sidebar is not always what you typed. Nicknames and messages have no such rule.
Does styled text work in a server nickname?
It does, on every client. Set it per server from the member list or the server dropdown, and it shows in that server only. Your global display name accepts styled text as well.
Will a bot or a search still find my text?
Not if the style replaces letters. Bold, cursive, gothic and the enclosed styles are different characters, so a keyword search will miss them. Strikethrough, underline, overline and slashed keep the real letters underneath, so those stay searchable and readable to a screen reader.
