Screen readers and search
This style keeps the real letters and adds a mark to each one, so screen readers still read the word and search still finds it.
Usernames are different
Every style here works in a bio, caption, message or status. None of them work in an @username or handle: those fields are checked against a short list of plain characters and anything else is refused. That is the field rejecting the characters, not the generator failing.
The mark is a separate character stacked onto the letter. It lands slightly differently from font to font, and a few apps strip these marks out.
How it works
Each character in your input is followed by U+0305, the combining overline. Nothing about your letters changes: they stay ordinary letters with a mark attached that instructs the renderer to draw a rule across the top. As with the other marked styles there is no font to install, and coverage is complete because the mark will attach to anything, letters in both cases, digits and punctuation alike.
No mainstream social platform offers an overline as a formatting option, so this is the only practical route to the effect in a bio, a caption or a post. It reads as slightly formal or technical, which suits headings, section labels and anything meant to look like a marked-up term. In mathematics an overline carries meaning, so avoid it where the text could be read as notation.
The line is drawn above the letter, which means it can crowd the line of text sitting above it when line spacing is tight. Positioning also varies between fonts, so the rule may sit closer to the letters on some devices than others. Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp and Facebook are marked partial because certain fields there strip combining marks; Discord and X are dependable. The compensating benefit is real: your words stay searchable and screen readers read them out as written.

What is an overline normally used for?
It appears in mathematics and technical notation, where a bar over a symbol has a defined meaning. As decoration it gives text a formal, marked-up look.
Why does the line overlap the text above it?
The mark is drawn above the letter's normal height. In a field with tight line spacing that can bring it close to, or into, the line above. There is no way to adjust it from here.
Is the text still searchable?
Yes. The original characters are unchanged and only carry an added mark, so browser find and in-app search still match your words.
Does it work on Instagram?
Partly. Some Instagram fields keep the mark and others strip it during validation. Discord and X are the two places it renders consistently in our checks.
